From Virtual Connections to Divine Providence: How YCP Sparked a Life-Changing Friendship

In a testament to how God works in unexpected ways, what began as virtual fellowship during the pandemic has blossomed into an extraordinary friendship that demonstrates the profound impact of Young Catholic Professionals (YCP) in fostering meaningful connections among faith-filled young adults.
Becca Siar, former YCP Chicago President, shares how monthly virtual gatherings of YCP chapter presidents during the pandemic led to an unexpected blessing. "I loved connecting with the Presidents from other chapters around the country," Becca recalls, noting how one connection in particular—with Sarah, then YCP Cleveland's President—would prove especially meaningful.
Their virtual relationship deepened through simple acts of mutual support: sharing prayers before events, extending invitations to virtual gatherings, and offering guidance on leadership challenges. When they finally met in person at YCP's annual National Conference, Becca remembers, "it was as if we had known each other forever."
Divine providence took a remarkable turn when Sarah reached out about a potential job opportunity in Chicago. Becca not only knew the company but had a direct connection—the position was being vacated by YCP Chicago's former Director of Finance. Following Becca's endorsement and a successful interview (preceded by what Becca calls a "huge 'you've got this' breakfast" she prepared for Sarah), the stars aligned perfectly.
Sarah secured the position and moved to Chicago, choosing to live in Becca's apartment building. Their friendship has continued to flourish through shared experiences of faith and community, attending Mass together, participating in YCP events, and even becoming coworkers at a Catholic Newman Center, where they serve college students in different capacities.
"YCP is not only helping one integrate their faith and their work, but they are also helping young adults find lifelong friends who are striving for sainthood together," Becca reflects gratefully. "For that, I am eternally grateful."
This story exemplifies YCP's mission beyond professional development, highlighting how the organization creates spaces for young Catholics to forge authentic friendships rooted in shared values and aspirations for holiness. Through both virtual and in-person connections, YCP continues to unite young professionals in their journey toward personal, professional, and spiritual excellence.
